THERE are so many cases of double standards or political hypocrisies in the world today that it sickens one's quest for an honest humanity.

The civilised western world or basically the two global power centres, the United States and Europe, often have inconsistent positions when dealing with many issues.

UNTIL a few days ago, you would associate Norway with peace, tranquillity and the Nobel Prize. It’s a country where the practice of civility, freedom, democracy, openness and respect for human rights is envied by many around the world. Its balanced political and economic model of “give and take” and moderation has many followers too.

A wall can mean many things. Firstly, it refers to the mental wall, the closed cultural mindset and the insular outlook of many people.

BOTH the prime minister and the deputy prime minister stated just before the Umno general assembly last week that there should be no more discussion or debate about the social contract and other issues pertaining to race in our country. It was wishful thinking, for over the next two days, delegate after delegate at the assembly, spoke out on racial issues.

WHEN I first set out to write a monthly column on race in November 2008, about eight months after the last general election, I thought that I would end my column after a year, as surely that was enough time to cover all I needed to say. I was hoping that I would be able to write about other important issues which I was equally passionate about.

I MADE a simple suggestion in my last article entitled "7 sins of racial chauvinism" for a public declaration against all forms of racialism or racial chauvinism to be signed by all parties across the political, racial and religious divides.
