LAST month, I wrote a column in which I lamented the fact that in Malaysia, we don’t have political debates like the type they have in the US, between presidential candidates. These are much watched programmes and for good reason. The voters want to know who they are voting for.

WHEN Apple founder and CEO Steve Jobs died last year, accolades filled the airwaves, print, online and social media. Everyone talked about how brilliant he was and how he revolutionised the computer, phone and music industry.

A few – very few – articles emerged on what a tyrant he was. Of course this was no secret.

IN the US, there is a tradition that presidential candidates from each of the two main parties, the Democrats and the Republicans, will debate each other. Not only that, the vice-presidential candidates from each of these parties will debate each other as well.

The idea is to give voters a chance to make an informed decision on who they should be voting for on election day.

THE government is going to table a Race Relations Bill in the March parliamentary sitting. This news has set tongues wagging, even though there is little information about what it will contain. There is, however, a lot of speculation and cynicism about it.

THIS month, around the time I was flying to New York to attend a conference on e-publishing, I read news reports of actor Alec Baldwin being kicked off a plane for refusing to shut off his mobile phone.

We all know the drill. Once we’re on a plane, we have to shut off our phones.
