I share the writer's concerns of the long-term implications of turning public universities into cheap vocational schools and transforming them into commercial/business/corporate entities.

NEWS reports have been highlighting the collapse of elaborate investment schemes resulting in investors losing millions of ringgit.

Many of those who fall victim are normally people who invest at a time when the investment scheme is ripe for collapse.

THE Education Ministry's decision to impose a compulsory school replacement on June 17 to make up for the extra holiday on June 23 is not well executed.

The justification for taking the extra day off on June 23 is to ease traffic congestion. Traffic is expected to peak on June 24 as Hari Raya falls on June 25.

This merely moves the traffic congestion from Saturday to Friday.

AFTER chairing the Bumiputra Economic Council, the prime minister proudly announced that 23 ministries have at least reached 90% of their Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and eight had attained 100% of their performance targets.

This achievement is impressive and laudable indeed.

THE amount of pension received by a government pensioner is dependent on two factors: the last drawn basic salary and the number of years in the civil service.
