AS THE owner of a seven-year old Toyota Avanza, I can attest to its reliability. As a family, we have used the trusty MPV, a 1.3 litre automatic, since March 2005, and we have used it for our small business and to run about daily.

The odometer, at the last check, was 198,000 kilometres, and it has travelled the length and breadth of the country countless times.

IN ITS fifth generation since it was first launched in 1990, the new Hyundai Elantra is about to make its appearance here in Malaysia very soon.

Sized in between the Accent and the Sonata, the Elantra is about 27mm longer than the Civic, and 9mm shorter than the Corolla.

THE NEW Proton Saga FLX SE, launched just a couple of weeks ago, has almost everything I always wanted.

It has a 1.6-litre engine, which boosts power up to 108 horsepower, with a maximum torque of 150Nm.

This represents a 14hp increase and 30Nm over the 1.3 Saga.

LAST year has seen a sideways expansion in the motoring industry with an expected 4% growth from last year’s high of 605,000 units, with the industry looking at a little over 623,000 TIV (total industry volume).
