Ford unveils new GT

FORD has now unveiled its new and second generation Ford GT supercar during the recent Detroit Auto Show 2015.

Picking up from where the previous Ford GT left off, the new second generation car also takes cues from the original, Le Manswinning GT40 in its design. It does take on a modern form with a sleek design, which is also aerodynamically optimised to reduce drag and generate more downforce. Other notable features include the upward-swinging doors, and the chassis design comprised of an aluminium front and rear subframes,as well as carbon fibre body panels to keep weight at a minimum.

Additionally, Ford has opted to switch from the predecessor’s V8 engine to a new 3.5 litre twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 in the new model as well. Developing more than 600hp, tasked to manage all that power is a dual-clutch seven-speed transaxle transmission, to which Ford claims is capable of providing “near-instantaneous gear changes.”

Besides that, the new Ford GT also gets carbon ceramic brakes, plus 20-inch wheels wrapped in specially designed Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup 2 tyres. Completing things here is the cabin design that features an F1-inspired steering wheel.

The new second generation Ford GT is slated to reach production sometime in late 2016.
