Netizens protest over sex blogger's appointment to censorship board

PETALING JAYA: Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte has once again courted controversy for his unorthodox ways. This time, he sparked criticism among netizens by appointing a sex blogger as a member of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) in the Philippines.

The ironic decision to appoint media personality and self-confessed "sex guru" Mocha Uson as part of a censorship board was met with widespread disapproval from social media users. A poll by local newspaper Inquirer showed that 93% of readers “thumb down” Uson’s appointment.

According to Philippine online magazine Next Shark, Uson, who is also a political activist, has been an active supporter of Duterte since the beginning of his campaign.

She has requested not to be receive any compensation for her new position, pledging instead to donate the money to Duterte’s Kitchen, a feeding program for street dwellers, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development projects.

On Facebook, Uson described her new role as an act of volunteerism.

Her first order of business? To remove soft porn on television.
