AT the Paradiski ski area in France's Tarentaise region, 40 lucky vacationers will get a chance to dine 1,250 feet above the ground. A one-time gourmet meal will be served on February 12 aboard the Vanoise Express, the world's longest cable car line.
During the two hour dinner, the double-decker cable car will remain suspended at an altitude of 1,750 meters (5,740 feet), 380 meters above the ground (1,250 feet). Passengers will enjoy a panoramic view over the snow-covered Alps.
The gourmet journey will begin at 7:00pm, and the cable car will come to a halt one kilometer from its stations, in the heart of the Ponthurin Valley, between the mountains of the Les Arcs/Peisey-Vallandry and La Plagne ski resorts.
For the occasion, the two cabins of the Vanoise Express will be redecorated for a baroque chic ambiance, complete with special tables, chairs, candelabras and chandeliers. A menu on the theme "revisited mountain cuisine" will be created by a leading gourmet chef whose identity is currently under wraps.
The participants of the event, Paradiski explains, will be vacationers present at the ski area during the week of Feb 12, who will be selected at the register when paying. There is no extra charge for entering the contest.
The Vanoise Express is the world's longest cable car line, spanning 1,824 meters (5,984 feet). The service connects the ski resorts of Les Arcs and La Plagne in less than four minutes and can transport around 2,000 passengers per hour. – AFP Relaxnews
