GEORGE TOWN: Six companies have been shortlisted as potential bidders for the project delivery partners (PDP) in the RM27 billion Penang Transport Master Plan (PTMP).
State Local Government, Traffic Management and Flood Mitigation committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow said these companies comprising three public listed firms and foreign consortiums have submitted their bids to undertake the comprehensive public transportation project.
He said the submission of Request for Proposal (RFP) was officially closed on Monday and these firms will know the results after an evaluation of technical and financial expertise is carried out by consulting firm KPMG beginning Feb 24.
"The analysing and evaluating process are expected to take up to three months to determine which company will undertake the PDP," he added.
"We expect the project to be rolled out in stages beginning 2017," he told a press conference in Komtar today.
The PTMP is aimed at solving traffic congestion on the island and mainland.
It also involves infrastructure works and comprehensive public transportation systems such as Light Rail Transit (LRT), trams and public buses.
