Malaysia clinches gold in Math Olympiad C'ship

    PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian contingent, which recently competed for four days in the inaugural Singapore Mathematics Olympiad Challenge (Simoc), won one gold, one silver, three bronze medals with the rest garnering honorable mentions.
    Low Wei Sheng won the gold medal as well as the Math Olympiad Champion trophy for the middle school category, while Sai Yin Chen won the silver medal as the second runner-up trophy for the Ultimate Math Whiz.
    Meanwhile, bronze medals were awarded to Lee Dai Wei, Tong Gui Cheng and Shee Yi Rong.
    The “Maths Warrior” prizes were awarded to Darren Lee Wei Soong, Sai Yin Chen, Lee Dai Wei, Sathyanarayanan Raamamurthy, Afif Syazwan Amir Muhriz and Hew Ja Jet.
    The event, which was held in Singapore from Aug 14 to 17, saw 30 Malaysian students competing against 13 countries which included Indonesia, Myanmar, Cambodia, Hong Kong, China, Vietnam, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, the Philippines and Singapore, making this one of the contest with the most countries represented.
