Former SB cop claims cover up

KUALA LUMPUR: Former police Special Branch deputy director DCP Datuk Abdul Hamid Bador (pix), who was abruptly seconded to the Prime Minister's Department in August, alleged today that ex-Attorney General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail was removed from office due to his vehement pursuit in solving the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) issue.
In a lengthy open letter to the government, Abdul Hamid claimed there was a plot to cover up the 1MDB probe.
He said he was confident with Abdul Gani leading the special task force on the 1MDB probe but alleged that the "no nonsense" stance of the former Attorney-General had "struck fear" in certain individuals.
"What has become of you Tan Sri? After the 'sacking' there is absolute silence on your part. Some say you were cowed into keeping silent.
"I will never forget the night I last met you prior to your removal. You told me - 'Hey look... this difficult decision that I have made is not about toppling the government. I am not interested in politics. I am just doing my job'.
"I stood up and saluted you. I can never forget that special moment," Abdul Hamid wrote.
He said claims of certain parties attempting to overthrow the government and that the Chinese were planning a "power grab" were an attempt to confuse the public and divert attention.
Abdul Hamid also advised his former boss, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Ali Hamsa and Attorney-General Tan Sri Apandi Ali to stand up for the truth and not be cowed by pressure.
As for the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), he called on its members to be brave and honest when executing their duties and emulate the work spirit of slain deputy public prosecutor Kevin Morais.
Abdul Hamid also claimed that his outspoken stand on 1MDB has led certain parties plotting to assassinate him.
"There are many sincere friends who have voiced their concern for my safety.
"Among them are those who informed me that there is a high possibility of killers hired from South Thailand being paid by these 'robbers of public funds' to kill me." he said
