KUALA LUMPUR: Former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad made a surprise visit to the High Court here today and shook hands with his former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
For years, the two had been against each other ever since Anwar’s sacking on Sept 2, 1998.
Today, both the leaders surprised everyone when they spoke to each other, like old friends.
First, Mahathir turned up at the High Court to be present at Anwar’s suit against the implementation of the National Security Council (NSC) Act..
Then, Anwar arrived with a police escort at 3.09pm and shook hands with many supporters, before walking towards Mahathir, who was standing at the front row.
As they shook hands, the supporters took the opportunity to capture the “picture perfect” moment, despite there being a ruling that taking pictures inside a court room is not allowed.
