KUALA LUMPUR: Another glitch, the second time this week forced Light Rail Transit (LRT) commuters to walk to the next station, on the track, early today.
In the incident involving the Setiawangsa- KLCC route, which occurred during rush hour, the train which was heading to Jelatik station was reported to have stopped suddenly between Datuk Keramat station and Damai station.
Passengers were trapped inside the train for about 20 minutes.
A passenger Yuen Jan Li, 29, said the train suddenly braked and stop about 9.10am. The lights and air conditioning system also ceased functioning, she said.
"Initially, I thought that it was normal but after 20 minutes of being trapped in the crowded train, people began to panic and we tried to find the intercom button but could not find it, she told Bernama, here.
Yuen said someone opened the door of the train from the outside and directed them to get out and walk on the track to Damai station, which took 10 minutes.
"All the passengers were forced to walk on the track which was a bit slippery due to the rain early this morning. There was also a pregnant woman inside the train and I can't imagine how she managed the walk," she said.
Yuen said she had to take a 'Grabcar' to go to her workplace in Jalan Ampang as there was no bus shuttle service available.
Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) will hold a media conference on the incident at 3pm today.
Meanwhile, affected passengers can get a refund of their fares at the ticket counter. Rapid KL also said via twitter that LRT services were restored around 11.45am.
On wednesday at 7am, thousands of LRT passengers were stranded when services along the Gombak-Putrajaya line were disrupted due to a technical problem.
The Land Public Transport commission(SPAD) that same day asked Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd to submit a full report by Sept 21, on the incident which involved the Kelana Jaya Line. — Bernama
