Movie Review - John Wick: Chapter 2

16 Feb 2017 / 16:35 H.

IF YOU were a big fan of the first movie, then you will certainly want to catch his one.
Keanu Reeves is back in the title role which gave his career a resurgence. By doing most of the action scenes himself in this blood-soaked action thriller, this 50-something actor is proving that he’s still got the moves.
The movie opens with John bashing up even more baddies, and it turns out that his vendetta is not yet over, as Abram Tarasov (Peter Stormare), the brother of Viggo from the first movie, has John’s car and he wants it back.
After plenty of smashing vehicles, shooting, maiming and killing, John drives off in his wrecked car hoping to put his past behind him once again.
However, trouble comes in the form of ex-associate Santino D’Antonio (Riccardo Scamarcio), who visits him with a marker that is a symbol of the debt that John owes him.
As it turns out, Santino had a hand in helping John to leave his assassin past behind and marry the love of his life, the now-dead Helen (Bridget Moynahan, seen in flashbacks).
Now, Santino wants John to kill his sister Gianna (Claudia Gerini), who is the current head of their Italian crime family.
John does what Santino asks to repay his debt, only to latter find that Santino has put a big contract out on him.
Returning in this movie are Ian McShane as Winston, the charismatic manager of the hotel that houses assassins; Lance Reddick as Charon, the concierge; and rapper Common as Cassian, John’s rival who was hired to protect Gianna.
Strange new additions to the cast are Ruby Rose as Santino’s mute female assassin and Laurence Fishburne (Reeves co-star from The Matrix franchise) as a myterious crime lord.
The action is great, which helps viewers to overlook the many holes in the plot.
There is a promise of more John Wick movies to come which should please fans.
