KUALA LUMPUR: Some 170 Ear, Nose and Throat specialists from across the world and Malaysia gathered at the 2017 ENT Summit and 3rd Navigated Sinus and Skull Base Surgery (NSBS) since last Thursday to get latest updates in the field of Otolaryngology and technologies.
The two men who dedicated themselves to organise the gathering was ENT specialist Datuk Dr Kuljit Singh and Dr Peter Catalano whose aim to ensure specialists are always abreast of new developments including new technology in ENT-related surgeries.
The three-day international ENT summit had iconic speakers from United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Russia, Singapore, Philippines, Thailand and Malaysia.
Dr Kuljit told theSun the speakers presented topics which ranged from controversial subjects in ENT to simple day to day procedures done in clinics.
The participants, which also comprised general practitioners, surgeons and pharmaceutical companies were also presented with demonstrations and live surgery on some of the more complicated procedures.
Dr Kuljit Singh who is an ENT consultant specialist at the Prince Court Medical Centre (PCMC) said the presentations were held at the Hilton Central while the live surgeries were conducted at the PCMC operating theatres.
"Among the medical topics discussed and demonstrated via live surgeries include rhinology, allergy, sleep apnea and related sub-specialties," he added.
Meanwhile, Catalano said the summit over the years has steadily increased the knowledge of the participants as it acts as a learning hub for them.
"The summit which is the 8th edition has seen ENT specialty having evolved by leaps and bounds as it is important that ENT surgeons are always kept updated with newer methods and technology," he added.
Catalano who is an Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery division chief and medical research director at the Saint Elizabeth's Medical Center Brighton, Massachusetts, United States, said the ENT Summit also involved discussions, debates, exchange of ideas and views among others.
"Over the years, we have moved away from tedious lectures to core practical points in nasal surgery and diseases," he said, adding the summit was useful to fellow ENT specialist in terms of discussing contemporary topics and controversial facts.
With the overwhelming participation, both Catalano and Kuljit hope to organise 9th edition of the summit, here, next year.
