PETALING JAYA: Contraband beer and liquors were seized in a bungalow in SS19 here as the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) enforcement team moved to cripple the state's illicit alcohol market. Petaling Jaya KPDNKK enforcement chief Kamaruddin Mohammad Yassin said following a tip-off and surveillance, the enforcement team raided a bungalow today at an undisclosed time. "There were no occupants in the bungalow during the raid. "Our officers will check the stamp on the alcohol bottles to ascertain if it was brought in legally or had been smuggled in," he said in a statement today. He said the enforcement team seized contraband beers and liquors worth RM200,000. The hunt for the suspects involved in the illicit alcohol syndicate is ongoing and the case will be investigated under Section 8 of the Trade Description Act 2011. Kamaruddin added the suspects, upon conviction, could face a fine of up to RM15,000 (organisation) for each of the counterfeit items and a jail term up to five years.
