Ace It Easy, programme by students for students in ten secondary schools

PUTRAJAYA: Ten secondary schools in Selangor have been specially selected to participate in a pilot programme called "Ace It Easy" that engages students who have the potential to succeed but are disengaged.
Deputy Education Minister Datuk P. Kamalanathan said the programme provides a platform for these students to explore the skills they are good at, discover their passion, relate that passion to their studies and achieve excellent results in their examinations.
"This is a very interesting and unique programme because firstly, it is developed and conducted by students for students through peer-to-peer guidance to engage students who are disengaged to be successful in school and in life.
"Secondly, the programme touches on the holistic development of a child along intellectual, spiritual, emotional and physical dimensions which is in line with the Malaysian Education Blueprint 2013 - 2025, to develop value-driven Malaysians with strong universal values and leadership skills that they can use in their own lives as well as for the community and the nation," Kamalanathan
said prior to officiating the programme at his ministry today.
According to programme coordinator Mathura Kanna, the programme introduces the power of goal setting and utilising the amazing subconscious mind to achieve the goals the students want in their life.
"Throughout the programme's duration, trainers will share with the participants how they can achieve great results in schools using methods like goal-setting, being in the right environment and utilising the power of subconscious mind; while giving them a different perspective of how they too can live their lives.
"Such messages are delivered through personal stories, practicals and games, experiences sharing session and other activities that are all conducted by the young trainers themselves because who can relate to the students better if its not for students themselves," Mathura said.
Asked if the programme will be expanded to other schools, Kamalanathan said the ministry will conduct an evaluation on the programme once it ends in April and if the ministry found it to be effective then the programme may be implemented nationwide.
The 10 schools involved in the programme are SMK Serendah, SMK Kuala Selangor, SMK Kalumpang, SMK La Salle, Petaling Jaya, SMK Kota Kemuning, SMK Kampung Soeharto, Kuala Kubu Baru, SMK Bandar Baru Batang Kali, SMK Dato Haji Kamaruddin, Kuala Kubu Baru, SMK Seri Garing, Rawang, and SMK Assunta, Petaling Jaya.
