PETALING JAYA: The Cambodian embassy in Kuala Lumpur has repatriated 16 workers who could no longer withstand their working conditions.
Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Chum Sounry told The Khmer Times yesterday that some of the 16 workers had travelled to Malaysia for work illegally, while some others had done so legally to work as maids. The workers were in Malaysia from 2014 to 2017.
They approached the embassy for help to get final wages and find a way home. They were from Kampot, Kampong Cham, Tbong Khmum, Kampong Thom, Kratie and Siem Reap provinces.
"The embassy provided accommodation, travel documents and facilitated their departures with the Malaysian Immigration Office," said Sounry, noting that the workers arrived in Cambodia on Saturday.
