KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is still receiving treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN) after being admitted for a chest infection last night.
Dr Mahathir, who is also Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman, is being placed under medical observation until further notice, an IJN spokesman said in a statement.
The IJN's Corporate Communications Department noted that Dr Mahathir is placed in the general ward and visits were only for family members.
His daughter, Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir, today posted two pictures on her Facebook of them smiling.
"In case you're worried, Dad's fine. Just need some rest. Will be back to kick some butts soon," she said.
In 1989, he suffered heart problems and had undergone coronary bypass surgery at the IJN.
He underwent a heart bypass surgery a second time in 2007.
In 2013, Dr Mahathir was admitted for 10 days for treatment of chest infection.
