PETALING JAYA: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today acknowledged that he was partly guilty of neglecting the Indian community during his time as prime minister.
Speaking in front of over 300 people from the Indian community, the Pakatan Harapan chairman, however, vowed to pay extra attention to the minority group should the coalition gain power in the forthcoming 14th General Election (GE14).
"Believe me, we (PH) believe in sharing everything with all the citizens of different ethnic origins in the country. This is our pledge.
"We must give special attention to groups and communities we seemed to have neglected in the past. I'm afraid I too may be found guilty of not giving enough attention," he said during the launch of PH manifesto for the Indian community, here, today.
Mahathir has been blamed by several quarters of sidelining the Indians in Malaysia when he was helming the country, including MIC Youth chief Datuk Sivarraajh Chandran who claimed the former's administration had deprived an entire generation of Indians of valuable opportunities and rights.
Mahathir said he felt the Indian community should be given due consideration in the development of the nation for all their contributions.
"It is for this reason PH has come up with 25 promises we aim to achieve for the community if we win the elections," he said.
