KUALA LUMPUR: The 2050 National Transformation (TN50) aspirations envisioned by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak were among the main messages highlighted during the National Day celebration at Dataran Merdeka, here today.
With the theme "A Shining Future", 200 participants from the Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM) team put up an energetic performance, demonstrating the spirit of the country's youth towards fulfilling their aspirations and dreams, as well as the country's aim of building a glorious future.
"The participants began training with the choreography team since July. This year's performance focuses on portraying the passion and enthusiasm of the country's youth to build the nation and meet the aspirations of TN50," the team's coordinator Dinesh Chandren told Bernama.
Announced by the prime minister when tabling the 2017 Budget, TN50 is the country's new 30-year vision post-2020.
It was initiated with a series of national discourses organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Dinesh said SGM's focus was not just to entertain the crowd, but to promote peace, culture, and harmony among the multiracial community.
He said people, especially the younger generation, should re-think the concept of independence, as 60 years ago it meant being free from colonial rule.
"For me, what's most important is independence does not mean freedom to do anything at will, but it means we are doing our best to contribute to the nation's development or the moulding of good character among our people. This is the main focus of SGM," he said.
Dinesh said another 40 participants from SGM were involved in the "Komponen Rakyat Bersepadu" segment with other performers from the Department of National Culture and Arts. — Bernama
