UMS' Water Analysis Laboratory receives international recognition

KOTA KINABALU: Universiti Malaysia Sabah Water Analysis Laboratory (UMSWAL) was awarded the MS ISO/IEC 17025 Accreditation Certificate by the Department of Standards Malaysia today in recognition of its compliance with international standards
The certificate was presented by the director general of Standards Malaysia, Datuk Fadilah Baharin to UMS deputy vice-chancellor Prof Dr Shahril Yusof in a ceremony held at UMS campus here today.
The accreditation meant that UMS is now a certified laboratory which enables it to provide water quality testing within the scope accredited to researchers, the general public and industries.
Earlier UMS vice-chancellor Prof Dr D Kamaruddin D Mudin said the accreditation signified UMS' capabilities in offering credible testing services.
"Our ultimate goal is not only to be the top most university in the academic excellence but also to be the hub for testing services to serve local, regional and international customers.
"Regulators and industries can now be rest assured that our laboratories are globally recognised," he said in his text of speech read by Dr Shahril.
Also present were UMS Science and Natural Resources dean Prof Dr Baba Musta and the university's Water Research Unit head Dr Moh Pak Yan. — Bernama
