KUANTAN: Women are urged to go for regular health checks to keep track of their health condition and for earlier detection of diseases, especially breast cancer.
Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Fuziah Salleh, said periodic checks could also help detect heart ailments and cervical cancer, which are among the common diseases affecting women.
"Women have to put aside shyness and be more open-minded to conduct breast examinations. If it is detected at an early stage then it is easier for the disease to be treated and more chances of a cure," said Fuziah, who is also Kuantan MP.
Speaking to reporters after officiating the Kuantan Breast Cancer Support and Charitable Association's Handing Over of Funds ceremony here last night, she said at the same time, women should also take care of their health, mental wellbeing and nutritional intake, besides exercising as they are pillars of the family.
"Before we take care of our children and husbands we have to take care of ourselves first. If we are healthy, then only can we take care of our families properly," she said.
Fuziah also called on families with cancer patients to provide continuous support so that they can recover and not experience stress. — Bernama
