BUKIT JALIL: Berjaya Land Bhd (BLand) has signed Jaya Grocer as the anchor tenant for the RM720 million The Tropika, Bukit Jalil.

BLand’s subsidiary Berjaya Golf Resort Bhd today entered into a lease agreement with Jaya Grocer operator Trendcell Sdn Bhd, which will see Trendcell running a Jaya Grocer store with food and beverage outlets at the commercial space of The Tropika in about two-and-a-half years.

Jaya Grocer will take up 23,695 sq ft of commercial space.

The commercial space of The Tropika also features two-storey dual frontage office lots ranging from 3,316 sq ft to 3,814 sq ft and retail space ranging from 752 sq ft to 1,677 sq ft.

BLand senior general manager of property marketing Tan Tee Ming said it is looking for commercial tenants that add to the lifestyle proposition of the project and is talking to restaurants, gyms, launderettes and pharmacies to be part of its commercial space.

“We’re talking to a couple of interesting names, which (if) they come in, will add value to the residences. They’re good household names,” Tan told reporters after the signing ceremony today.

Launched in Feb 23, The Tropika is a gated and guarded residence located on 6.5 acres of freehold and in Bukit Jalil. The residential part of the project has 868 units within four towers with four types of specially designed units, measuring 732 sq ft, 974 sq ft, 1,318 sq ft and 1,251 sq ft respectively.

Tan said it has sold 70% of its first tower (Tower A) and is confident of launching Tower B this year when sales of Tower A hit 80%, helped by home financing solution Houzkey offered by BLand in partnership with Maybank Islamic Bhd.

Besides The Tropika, Tan said it is also focusing on the sales of The Ritz-Carlton Residences in Kuala Lumpur.

He added that BLand is also expected to launch the Timur Bayu development in Shah Alam in the first quarter next year.
