Genting Bhd scraps 2020 outlook in annual report

PETALING JAYA: Genting Malaysia Bhd has advised shareholders that it is “not prudent” to issue a statement on the group’s prospects for the coming year, given the “unprecedented times of uncertainty”.

This was stated in a special section, dated April 7, under the chairman and chief executive’s statement in the group’s annual report filed with Bursa Malaysia tonight.

“The Covid-19 outbreak has evolved into a global pandemic, adversely affecting economies worldwide due to the widespread imposition of travel restrictions, constraints on the movement of people and the suspension of many

business operations to curb the spread of this virus,” it said.

Genting Malaysia had already suspended operations in Resorts World Genting, Resorts World Awana, Resorts World Kijal and Resorts World Langkawi since the movement control order was implemented in Malaysia on March 18.

Similarly, as required by the respective authorities, Resorts World New York City, Resorts World Catskills, Resorts World Bimini, Resorts World Birmingham and the group’s other land-based casinos in the UK are temporarily closed until further notice to curb the spread of Covid-19.

“These are unprecedented and extremely challenging times for the group. The spread of the Covid-19 threat and

its impact on economies worldwide are major concerns globally and to the group.

“The situation globally will remain fluid as world-wide governments’ responses to the Covid-19 pandemic continue to evolve rapidly to contain the outbreak. Given these unprecedented times of uncertainty, it is not prudent at this time to issue any statement on the group’s prospects,” it stated.
