Hess Malaysia delivers first gas from NMB Phase 2 project

PETALING JAYA: Hess Malaysia said it has safely started up first gas from the Zetung wells in Phase II of the North Malay Basin (NMB) Integrated Gas Development Project.

The NMB Integrated Gas Development Project is a phased development project with Phase I comprising an early production system and a full-field development project, which achieved first gas in 2013 and 2017 respectively.

Phase II includes the development of the Zetung and Anggerik fields which are located south of the Bergading Central Processing Platform (CPP), approximately 300 kilometres offshore Peninsular Malaysia.

Hess Malaysia, a subsidiary of Hess Corporation, is the operator and holds a 50% interest in the NMB project together with Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd, which holds the remaining equity.

In a statement, Hess Asia vice president Zhiyong Zhao said NMB is an important resource for Malaysia and will help meet increasing natural gas demand across the country.

“We are extremely proud to have delivered the first gas for NMB Phase II safely and on schedule. The next milestone for NMB will be the delivery of first gas from the Anggerik wells, which are expected to come onstream in April 2020,” he added.

Earlier this year, Hess sanctioned Phase 3 of the NMB development, with first gas planned for the fourth quarter of 2021.
