Matrade inks MoC with Japan External Trade Organisation

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) has signed a memorandum of cooperation (MoC) with Japan External Trade Organisation (Jetro) in Tokyo to further enhance trade promotion co-operation between Malaysia and Japan.

The MoC was signed during the second leg of Senior Minister and Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali’s trade and investment mission to Korea and Japan on Monday. The mission is the first trade and investment mission led by Azmin this year, which kickstarted on April 1 and will end on April 6.

The MoC signing, witnessed by Azmin and Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Hiroshi Kajiyama, signifies both organisations’ commitment to strengthen bilateral trade relations between Malaysia and Japan.

“The MoC signaled a strong partnership between the two nation with particular interest to intensify co-operation in areas namely halal and digital transformation. With the upcoming Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics as well as World Expo 2025 in Osaka, there are many opportunities for companies in both countries to realise, specifically in exporting halal products and services too. We encourage more Malaysian companies to reach out to Matrade for assistance in expanding and accessing the Japanese market,” said Matrade CEO Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz.

Through the MoC, Matrade, an agency under Ministry of International Trade & Industry, looks forward to intensify collaboration with Jetro in the long-run by capitalising the opportunities in the current economic context. The areas of co-operation identified in the MoC reflect the current needs of business community to further explore the potential of digitalisation and e-commerce.

With the MoC, both organisations are committed to facilitate trade promotion through activities such as business missions, meetings, seminars, workshops, trade shows and other trade promotional activities in both Malaysia and Japan. In addition, both organisations will intensify the exchange and dissemination of trade-related information to both Malaysian and Japanese firms on export opportunities. Such co-operation aims to increase Malaysia’s exports to Japan whilst expanding collaboration in digital transformation between Malaysian and Japanese firms.

Matrade has a network of 46 global offices to facilitate Malaysian companies’ access into the world market and for Japan, Matrade has a trade office in Tokyo.
