Rubber glove players want to operate at full capacity during movement curb period

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian Rubber Glove Manufacturers Association (Margma) has called for the government to allow its members to continue production at 100% capacity amid the widespread of Covid-19.

“Margma members have received enormous requests from 190 countries for more gloves to be supplied and even the governments of many countries have pleaded with us to provide more gloves,” it said in a press statement.

Margma said its members are able to ramp up their capacity if it is approved by the government.

“Malaysia has to supply about 225 billion pieces of this protective medical device to 190 countries and we cannot stop as the COVID-19 virus is spreading rapidly.”

Margma said the World Health Organisation (WHO) has called on industries and governments to increase manufacturing by 40% to meet rising global demand.

“We understand that many European countries are very worried as the stock level of these medical gloves can only last for several days only.”

“Malaysia is the world largest medical gloves producer and we must be duty bound and be responsible for the welfare of all humanity of the world.”
