PETALING JAYA: Ten new cases of Covid-19 were reported today, bringing the total number of active cases in the nation to 183.
Health director-general Tan Sri Noor Hisham Abdullah, said eight of today’s cases were imported, while the remaining two were local transmissions from the Tawar Cluster.
“Out of the eight import cases, three were Malaysians and five were foreigners. They were returning from Japan, Indonesia, Maldives and Mexico.
“The two local transmissions today involved Malaysians infected by the Tawar Cluster in Kedah.
“The latest report brings the total number of infections detected in the country to 9,267,” he said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, 10 cases had recovered and were discharged today. This brings the total number of patients to have recovered to 8,959, amounting to 96.7% of the total cases.
He also said that nine cases were currently in intensive care units, with two needing ventilator assistance.
No deaths were reported today, leaving the death toll at 125.
On the topic of clusters, Noor Hisham said 3,286 people had been tested in the Tawar cluster, while 27 had been tested in the Alam cluster.
“Up till 12pm on Aug 23, the positive cases in the Tawau cluster comprised 54 cases in Kedah and 11 cases in Penang.
“Meanwhile, the Alam cluster in Sarawak consisted of seven positive cases so far,” he said.
