Public debut for Proton X70

PROTON today gave the X70, its first SUV, a public debut during the media day of the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS) 2018.

The show is held at the Malaysian International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec). It is open to the public from today until Dec 2.

Although this won’t be the first time the X70 is shown to the public, all previous instances were closed-door preview events only for invited guests.

Therefore, this is the first time it is displayed in a public environment such as KLIMS and for many visitors, this is their first opportunity to take a closer look at Proton’s newest model inside and out.

Aside from having five units on display, Proton has also prepared special areas to give visitors unique hands-on experience of the technology and equipment fitted in the X70.

For instance, a full-scale half-cut model was prepared to show critical areas where the body has been reinforced to make it safer in an accident.

Display panels housing the touchscreen from the interior of the X70 have also been prepared to demonstrate its usability and allow visitors to try the voice command system.

To add more excitement to its product display, Proton is giving KLIMS visitors a chance to experience the advanced driver assist systems offered on the X70 without having to go for a test drive.

A virtual-reality area simulates how systems like the Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) work in real life, giving a preview of the sensations a driver will feel when they are activated.

“The Proton X70 is finally ready to meet the Malaysian public and we think the best platform to use is KLIMS, Malaysia’s premier motor show,” said Proton Edar CEO Abdul Rashid Musa.

“Visitors will be given full access to our show cars and we encourage everyone to explore the various design, technology, safety and performance aspects of Proton’s first SUV by spending some time at our interactive areas.”

He added that the cars at KLIMS are in the same specifications customers will receive. “So what you see at the show is what buyers will get.”

Proton also announced Dec 12 as the launch date for the X70, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, where it will start delivery of customer cars immediately after the launch.
