SUNGAI PETANI: A building contractor was nabbed for investigation into alleged fraud over construction and renovation of houses involving a loss of RM535,000.

Kedah Commercial Criminal Investigation Department head Supt Elias Omar, in a statement today, said the 38-year-old man was arrested at 10.30 pm yesterday after being tracked down by the police for six hours.

He said the suspect, who advertised his services in the construction and renovation of houses on Facebook, was alleged to have cheated his clients by taking payments, but disappeared without completing the work as promised.

He said the police had nine reports against the suspect, who is in remand for three days starting today for investigation under Section 420 of the Penal Code.

Yesterday, the media reported that a total of 17 individuals from Kedah, Perlis and Penang, suffered a loss of RM481,000 after being cheated by a construction company since 2017.

All the victims claimed to have made an advance payment to the company involved for the construction and renovation of houses, but the work was not completed as promised. — Bernama
