PETALING JAYA: After 11 Covid-19 cases were detected among those returning from Sabah today, the Health Ministry has announced extra safety measures, including mandatory health screenings for all those travelling back from the state.
“From Sept 27 to Oct 10, all returnees from Sabah will undergo screening for respiratory tract infection and Covid-19 at both international and domestic arrival gates.
“It will also be mandatory for them to download and register with the MySejahtera application, and use it to check in their location as soon as they reach the arrival gates,” said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah today.
Noor Hisham said returnees would then have to undergo mandatory quarantine at their homes until their test results are released.
“All returnees will be given a Home Surveillance Order (HSO) letter and quarantine wrist-band upon arrival at the gates. The HSO will start from their date of arrival until the lab test results are obtained. They will be released from their HSO if the results are negative for Covid-19.”
“If any individual needs to return home using public transportation such as taxi or Grab-car, a letter of approval allowing them to travel to their address will be given,” he said in a statement.
Noor Hisham added that those who experience a respiratory tract infection within 14-days of returning from Sabah, will be subjected to a repeat Covid-19 test.
He said that all individuals returning from Sabah, whether Malaysian or non-Malaysian, will be exempted from charges for the Covid-19 tests.
Noor Hisham concluded by saying that the implementation period of the abovementioned safety measures will be revised from time to time, and information on any changes will be announced to the public.
