PETALING JAYA: The longest Covid-19 treatment period in Malaysia was up to 108 days , the Health Ministry revealed today.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pix) said the record is held by a foreigner.
“One of the factors was because the patient had other medical complications where the patient got a bacterial infection during treatment,“ he added.
Fir a Malaysian Covid-19 patient, the longest was a total of 98 days of treatment.
This comes after the United Kingdom reported a 56 year-old Briton had to undergo 222 days of treatment which made him the longest-suffering Covid patient.
He had other medical complications throughout his treatment which were heart attack, stroke, collapsed lungs and organ failure.
Meanwhile the ministry has identified an additional four new clusters today.
Noor Hisham said the clusters were Bonggaya and Jambatan B clusters in Sabah, Abell cluster in Sarawak and BMU cluster in Malacca.
However a total of three clusters involving Selasih, Bah Pengkalan and Bah Pasir had ended their observation period today and reported no new Covid-19 cases.
He then revealed that out of 158 active clusters reported to date, a total of 65 involved infections from the workplace.
“ A total of 5,681 Covid-19 cases were detected from the workplace which involved 3,369 Malaysians and 2,312 foreigners. This was due to the proactive measures taken by employers to get their workers to undergo screening tests.
He said one of the risks of the virus spread was the workers’ hostels/accommodation that are crowded.
