CYBERJAYA: The Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has reaffirmed its commitment to implementing significant change in its operating model and people culture, focused on the call for transparency, accountability and integrity.
This comes following Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah’s new year message of “Moving Forward to 2021”.
In a statement released today, MDEC chairman Datuk Rais Hussin (pix) said that MDEC is fully in support of the minister’s call.
“Our ‘Reinvent’ agenda is crucial to inject new, fresh ideas, enthusiasm and skills. If we are to realise our vision of Malaysia 5.0 and establish Malaysia as the heart of digital Asean, there must be a paradigm shift in our approach,” he said.
The reinvention of MDEC will include bringing in exceptional talents with new approaches and thinking and this will intensify MDEC’s initiatives to grow the nation’s digital economy, especially in navigating unprecedented disruption and opportunities in the new norm.
He noted that the fourth industrial revolution (4IR) has the power to move society into the informational age where society is at the centre of technology and data is decentralised into the control of its creators to innovate and even monetise.
“We hope this mission to realise Malaysia 5.0 will be a significant step to bring the digital economy for the many, and shared prosperity for all in 2021 and beyond,” he added.
Following its restructuring, he stated that MDEC will now focus on four key thrusts — Digital Talent, Digital Business, Digital Investments and Digital MDEC.
“This will drive high-impact digital outreach and outcomes for our society and economy.”
