No ‘balik kampung’ for Deepavali from areas under MCO

PETALING JAYA: Residents of areas under the movement control order (MCO) areas cannot cross borders during the Deepavali celebration on Nov 14.

Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pix) said this was part of the standard operating procedures (SOP) developed by the National Security Council (NSC) for the festive period, which would usually see the public return to their villages or hometowns.

“Those living in areas under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) or the conditional movement control order (CMCO) will not be allowed to cross sub-district, district, and state borders to return to their hometowns,” he told a media conference on the recovery movement control order (RMCO) today.

Meanwhile, EMCO will be imposed at three new locations in Sabah and conditional movement control order (CMCO) on Negeri Sembilan, Terenggganu and Perak.

Ismail Sabri said the implementation of EMCO would be carried out at the Tawau temporary detention centre (PTS), Sandakan Prison, and Prison Quarters in Taman Wira, Sandakan from tomorrow to Nov 19.

“As at Nov 4, screenings by the Health Ministry (MOH) has recorded 440 positive Covid-19 cases involving detainees and staff of Tawau PTS,” he said.

“The Tawau PTS EMCO will affect 1,707 individuals comprising 1,603 detainees and 104 employees.”

EMCO in Sandakan Prison and Taman Wira Prison Quarters will involve 1,308 detainees and 297 staff.
