KUALA LUMPUR: St. John Ambulance of Malaysia (SJAM) in collaboration with the National Blood Centre (PDN) will be organising its second Blood Donation Drive this year at 15 locations nationwide, starting this Friday.

In a statement today, SJAM said the three-day drive will be held simultaneously in Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Johor.

It said the drive was being organised following an urgent appeal by the PDN to replenish their blood supply which was running low as the nation was hit by the third wave of Covid-19.

“States such as Sabah is facing shortages and the number of donors has decreased dramatically due to the implementation of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) statewide,” it said.

SJAM Commander-in-chief Datuk Lai See Ming was quoted in the statement as saying that they will continue to organise as many blood donation programmes as possible to assist the various blood banks in the government hospitals throughout the country.

He also assured the public that all the necessary measures and standard operating procedures (SOP) will be adhered to to ensure their safety and well being.

The statement also said that, upon arrival, donors will be provided with hand sanitiser and have their body temperature checked, and that beds and equipment will be disinfected after every donor left.

Blood donors are advised to visit PDN social media platforms and SJAM website at http://sjam.org.my/blooddonation/ for more information on the blood donation schedule and locations. — Bernama
