PETALING JAYA: There were 110 new cases of Covid-19 today, bringing the total to 900.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said that of the new cases that tested positive, 63 were at the tabligh gathering in the Sri Petaling mosque from Feb 27 to March 1.
He told a press conference today that there were now 20 cases in intensive care.
On the bright side, 15 patients have recovered and discharged from hospital bringing the number of those who have successfully fought the infection to 75.
On the case of the 83 Malaysians currently attending a tabligh event in Sulawesi, Indonesia, he said they will be screened and quarantined when they return home.
“Besides that, we are collaborating with the hospitals and clinics to do screening, so for those suspected of having Covid-19, they have to declare their suspicion so that the doctors who attend to them can wear personal protective equipment,” he said.
He also said although it is early days, the trend seems to indicate that the number of cases are going to reach a plateau for now.
Adham attributed this to the 14-day restriction movement order that has been imposed by the Malaysian government.
“We want to avoid having the Covid-19 virus spread to more people, so it is good that the cases seem to be coming to a plateau, but only time can tell, because it also depends on whether people can abide by the restriction movement order,” he added.
