13-year-old among seven pleaded guilty to violating MCO

KANGAR: A 13-year-old among seven individuals who were fined RM1,000 by the magistrate’s court here today for violating the Movement Control Order (MCO), enforced to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Magistrate Kamaliza Md Zain handed down the sentence on the boy and six others - Muhammad Aiman Indra, 19; Muhamad Hazwan Alif Roslan, 20; Mohamad Hazwan Mat Hassim, 22; Muhamad Nabil Afiq Azman, 22; Fazrin Shafiq Mohmmad, 24 and Norhaizani Harum Halim, 28, after they pleaded guilty to the charge.

The seven accused were arrested separately on March 27 and 28 at Taman Cempaka, Kampung Seri Gelam, Tambun Tulang and Kampung Teluk in Arau.

They paid the fine.

Meanwhile, in the same court, four others pleaded not guilty for the same offence.

The four unemployed men - Ahmad Rizuan Kassim, 32; Fauze Ahmad, 32, Khairul Ridzuan Fazial, 21; and Muhammad Afiq Jasni, 32, made the plea after the charge against them was read out before magistrate Kamaliza.

Ahmad Rizuan and Fauze, both from Kampung Belakang Kompleks Bernas were accused of committing the offence at Kampung Teluk in Arau at 11.15pm on March 27, while Khairul Ridzuan from Kampung Che Ok and Muhammad Afiq of Taman Bunga Padi were accused of going to Jalan Long Boh at 2am, March 28.

The court allowed bail at RM1,000 to all accused and fixed May 6 for re-mention.

All 11 individuals were charged under rule 3(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020.

Offenders can be fined up to RM1,000 or jailed not more than six months, or both upon conviction. - Bernama
