KOTA KINABALU: A total of 14,467 Info on Wheels (IOW) programmes have been implemented in 58,358 locations throughout the country since the initiative was launched on Jan 23 this year, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah.

He said of this number, 1,578 programmes were implemented in 5,380 locations throughout Sabah.

“The announcements and information disseminated during the programmes covered all categories of the Movement Control Order (MCO), self-prevention and ways to tackle Covid-19, government initiatives, and the Malaysian Population and Housing Census 2020 (e-Census).

“Apart from this, there were also announcements on moratorium repayment, and national campaigns on Rukun Negara, Fly the Jalur Gemilang, Anti-Human Trafficking, anti-dadah and Jom Mengundi (Let’s go and vote),” he said.

He said this when attending an IOW programme on Jom Mengundi at Taman Jumbo, Petagas, Putatan, here, today.

Saifuddin said IOW is an Information Department programme to disseminate information on current issues, and government policies and initiatives through the department’s mobile unit.

On the IOW Jom Mengundi, he said it would run from Sept 8 until tomorrow in conjunction with the 16th Sabah state election to encourage the people to go out and vote on Saturday.

“Apart from making announcements via loudspeakers, the department’s mobile unit also distributes leaflets on Jom Mengundi and Covid-19 prevention guidelines for polling day,” he added.

Some 1.12 million people are eligible to vote in the state election. — Bernama
