150 new Covid-19 cases, four more deaths: Health DG

PETALING JAYA: The Health Ministry today announced that there are 150 new Covid-19 positve cases, making the total number of positive cases to 3483 as of 12pm today.

“There are also now 99 cases in the intensive care unit (ICU), with 50 of them requiring ventilators,“ said Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a press conference today.

However, he also said 88 cases have since recovered and have been discharged from the hospital, making the total number of cases that have been discharged and recovered from Covid-19 to 915.

Meanwhile, Noor Hisham said there were four deaths that occurred today, which takes the death toll to 57.

The 54th death was that of an 85-year-old man who has a medical history of heart issues. He was treated at the National Heart Institute on March 23. He was pronounced dead on March 28, 12.10am.

The 55th death was that of a 66-year-old woman with a medical history of high blood pressure. She was treated at Hospital Sultan Ismail Petra, Kelantan on March 18 and she was pronounced dead on April 3, 4pm.

The 56th death was that of a 56-year-old man who has a medical history of heart issues. He was a close contact to case 1031 and he was treated at the Sarawak General Hospital, on March 30. He was pronounced dead at April 3, 10.25pm

The 57th death was that of a 61-year-old man who has a medical history of diabetes. He was treated at Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan, Kuantan, Pahang on March 23. He was pronounced dead on April 3, 10.25pm.

Noor Hisham also said out of 3483 cases, about 1545 cases came from the cluster that attended the tabligh gathering at the Seri Petaling mosque.

“This is the biggest cluster to date and have a few generations of infections including family members, close contacts at the mosque and also at tahfiz schools,“ he said.

He added that the Ministry will work with several agencies to identify and test all close contacts with these high-risk groups. He also urged the public to contact the nearest district health office to be screened if they attended the gathering or are in close contact with the participants.
