SUBANG JAYA: To the colleagues of Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim (pix) the number 17476 will forever be etched in their memory.
Muhammad Adib or fondly called Mat Dib had always been identified by the staff number throughout his service with the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia.
Muhammad Adib, 24, who was seriously injured believed to have been assaulted in the riot incident at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Subang Jaya last month, died after 21 days at the National Heart Institute (IJN).
His passing was mourned by Malaysians from all walks of life, family members, friends and colleagues at the Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Station.
A colleague, Mohd Khairul Hafiz Mansor, said the deceased was well known for his smiling face and was never calculative when it came to work.
“Mat Dib was quiet by nature but once he gets to know you better he can be very warm and friendly ... in fact we all treat him like our little brother,
“We will never forget his sweet smile whenever he is at the station,“ he told Bernama when met at the Subang Jaya BPP today.
It was painful to see Muhammad Adib’s firefighter overtrousers still hanging at the clothes rack corner during a survey round the station.
The worn-out orange colour protective clothing was among the outfits Muhammad Adib had brought along with him during the operation on that fateful night.
Mohd Khairul Hafiz said that although Mat Dib was no longer around, everyone at the station would have fond memories of working with him.
“His enthusiasm and never give-up spirit will spur us to give our best service to the community,“ he said while holding on tight to the deceased’s uniforms.
The remains of Muhammad Adib were laid to rest at the As-Saadah Mosque Muslim cemetery in Kampung Tebengau, Kuala Kedah near here at about 1.45pm on Tuesday. — Bernama
