178 apprehended for failing to follow RMCO SOPs

PETALING JAYA: The police nabbed a total of 178 offenders who failed to adhere to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) under the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) as of today.

Senior Minister (Defence) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pix) said in the press statement, out of 178, eight had been remanded, one received bail and the remaining 169 were issued compounds for breaching the SOPs.

Meanwhile, Ops Benting task force members, led by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) had inspected 26,794 vehicles, carried out 65 roadblocks nationwide and made one arrest where a foreigner was found to have disobeyed the immigration law.

Apart from that, between July 24 and Aug 8, a total of 8,011 people returned from abroad and were then placed at designated quarantine stations (31 hotels and five public institutions-government owned) in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Pulau Pinang, Johor, Sarawak, Kelantan, Perak, Perlis and Kedah, to undergo a 14-day compulsory quarantine period.

“They returned from 30 countries, and out of 8,011, a total of 20 individuals tested positive for Covid-19,“ he said.

As of now, the country is going through a second wave of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) and Malaysia is on high alert.

Yesterday, 25 positive cases were recorded, with 12 were traced from the Sivagangga cluster that started in Kedah.
