PETALING JAYA: There was a 51% increase in arrests made on April 5 for flouting the movement control order (MCO), Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.

In a National Security Council press conference yesterday, Ismail Sabri, who is also Senior Minister, said police arrested 554 individuals at roadblocks and during surveillance rounds on April 5.

“Yesterday, 743 roadblocks were set up nationwide in which authorities inspected 293,051 vehicles and performed 25,818 spot checks and 4,822 premises were checked as well.

“The police arrested a total of 554 individuals compared to 368 arrests on Saturday.

“Before this, I was proud because the number of arrests went down for four days in a row but yesterday it suddenly shot up by 51%” Ismail Sabri said.
