Academic certificate issue does not affect PH’s chances in Semenyih: Mat Sabu

LANGKAWI: The issue concerning the academic certificate of a Cabinet member will not jeopardise Pakatan Harapan (PH)’s chances of winning the Semenyih state seat by-election.

Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) president Mohamad Sabu said despite their focus on the issue, the public should not forget the bigger issue of the “stolen state funds”.

“There is no problem for PH in the Semenyih state seat election ... to Malaysians, the case of stolen state funds is not an issue, they prefer issues like this (the academic certificate) and we hope their way of thinking will change in the future,“ he said.

Mohamad was speaking to reporters after a ceremony to recognise sponsors of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2019 (LIMA’19) here today.

Asked if the Cabinet member affected by the issue should resign his post, Mohamad who is also Defence Minister said the power to decide on the matter was with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

In fact, he said, Mahathir had already been informed of the personal information of the leaders appointed to the Cabinet.

“All personal information, including the academic certificates, are with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, he can decide if an individual should be retained in the cabinet or not, so I do not want to make any comments on anyone else’s certificates,“ he said.

On the investigations into the RM90 million which PAS allegedly received from Umno, Mohamad urged all parties, including Amanah members, with any information to pass it on to the authorities.

“I do not want to make any accusations, let the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigate if there is a case to be brought to court, so leave it to them.

“Anyone with any evidence should cooperate with the authorities, to me, let the police and MACC complete their investigations,“ he said. — Bernama
