PETALING JAYA: A movement control order (MCO) will be implemented in Perak, Kedah, Perlis, Negri Sembilan, Pahang and Terengganu from Jan 22 to Feb 4, bringing the entire nation under the order, except Sarawak.

Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the measure was taken after increasing new Covid-19 cases were recorded in the states involved.

“From risk assessment and on the advice of the Health Ministry, the government agreed that an MCO is enforced in the states to curb the spread of CovidD-19,” he said in a media conference on the development of the MCO yesterday.

Earlier, six states were placed under an MCO, namely Penang, Selangor, Federal Territories (Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan), Malacca, Johor and Sabah from Jan 13 to 26.

Pahang, Perak, Negri Sembilan, Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan were under a conditional movement control order (CMCO) while Perlis and and Sarawak came under a recovery MCO (RMCO) during the period.

On Jan 16, an MCO was also implemented in Kelantan, until Jan 26.

Ismail Sabri also said restaurants, food outlets, food trucks, roadside hawkers, food courts, kiosks, food stalls, sundry shops and convenient stores are allowed to operate from 6am to 8pm.

Food supply and selling activities will only be allowed for takeaway, drive-through or delivery from 6am to 8pm while hospitals and clinics are allowed to operate 24 hours.

Meanwhile, National Unity Minister Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique has tested positive for Covid-19 and will undergo treatment and quarantine in Johor Baru.
