KUALA PILAH: For the last 10 years, antique-shop owner Low Boon Tick worked hard to build up his business. And last night, he saw it burnt down in a fire.

“I am very sad that my antique and toy shop where I and my family had worked is lost in the fire,” Low said, adding that he suffered a loss of RM25,000 in the fire which started at 9pm yesterday.

Low said he was shocked when he was informed by the Fire Department that his two-storey shop in Jalan Tung Yen, Kuala Pilah, was on fire and he immediately rushed there.

“When I arrived, the fire still had not been put out yet, and i saw the firemen working hard to extinguish it,” he told Bernama here today.

Low said the shop was a source of income for his family, besides a food outlet near the Kuala Pilah market.

“Among other things, I lost an antique radio and record player. I do not mind losing the toys because they can easily be replaced, but I am upset over the antique items because they are hard to come buy,” he said.

In the incident, fire engulfed the lower floor of the shoplot, burning about 40% of it.

Eight firemen from the Kuala Pilah Fire Station rushed to the location after receiving an emergency call at 9.22pm.

According to Senior Fire Officer II Mohd Zakaria Ramli who led the operations, the fire was put out about an hour later and the cause is still being investigated. — Bernama
