KUALA LUMPUR: Five people faced some anxious moments in a lift mishap at their flats in Taman Batu Permai, Jinjang here.

They entered the lift on their fifth floor of the flats afterwhich the lift is believed to have slowly crashed to the ground floor.

The incident happened at about 2 pm yesterday, when the police received a complaint at the Jinjang Police Station.

Sentul district police chief ACP S. Shanmugamoorthy Chinniah said the elevator crashed slowly from the fifth floor to the ground floor.

There were three male victims and two children trapped in the elevator, he said.

“However, with the help of residents, the elevator door was prised open and all the victims were taken out to safety. However, three of the victims suffered swollen feet and had sprains, and were sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment while the two children were not injured,“ he told Bernama.

Shanmugamoorthy said the Department of Occupational Safety and Health also did an investigation before the elevator maintenance company found the cause of the incident and repaired it.

“This is the first time that such a thing has happened. Prior to this, the lift was well maintained,“ he added.-Bernama
