PETALING JAYA: Air quality in Sri Aman, Sarawak, has dropped to its lowest level since the latest haze outbreak, with an air pollutant index (API) of 407, that is considered hazardous.

The Environment Department air quality hourly monitoring system showed readings for the town near Kuching had deteriorated from 352 at 6am to 397 at 4pm, before breaching the 400 mark at 5pm.

An API of above 300 indicates hazardous air quality. Readings below 50 represents good air quality, 51 to 100 is moderate, 101 to 200 is unhealthy while 201 to 300 is considered very unhealthy and readings above 300 is deemed hazardous.

Four locations have recorded very unhealthy readings, namely Johan Setia Klang in Selangor (231), Kuching, Sarawak (214) and Port Dickson and Nilai in Negri Sembilan with readings of 203 and 205 respectively.
