SITIAWAN: The Civil Defence Force (APM) will take delivery of 391 fibre glass rescue boats worth about RM4.4 million, by April next year for use in times of disaster, especially during the monsoon seasons.

APM deputy chief commissioner (Management), Sukiman Ahmad said to date the local supplier SMSR Resources based in Seri Manjung, has supplied 160 boats and 60 of the boats which were delivered in September have been dispatched to Perak and Kedah.

He said the 100 boats which arrived today are undergoing final acceptance test to check engine capabilities and ensure that the boats have been constructed according to specifications.

“After the tests are completed the boats would be distributed to Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu,“ he told Bernama when met during the test session here today.

Sukiman added that another 130 boats were scheduled to arrive in February next year and the rest would be delivered in April.

“Once we have received the total number, we are confident that will be able to cope with the current situation and be on top form to provide rescue efforts especially during the floods,“ he said. — Bernama
