PETALING JAYA: The army will be deployed from Sunday to assist the police in
ensuring Malaysians adhere to the movement control order to curb the Covid-19 outbreak, said Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pix).
“Today’s meeting decided that the army will help the police in monitoring the situation especially to ensure that the people follow instructions so that they will stay in their own houses.
“The army will be mobilised this Sunday and we are confident that with the army’s help, stricter enforcement can be carried out,” Ismail said in a press conference in Putrajaya today.
On another matter, Ismail said students who are staying in their dormitories in their respective colleges and universities and cannot afford to pay for daily meals, will have free meals that will be borne by the government.
“This is to ensure that they are properly fed during the movement control order period,“ he said.
He added that road permits will soon be issued by the government to certain private companies that are part of the essential services listed under the regulations.
“This is to assist them in the event that they are stopped by the police and they do not have proof that they are required to work during this period,“ he said.
