PARIT: A cow breeder lost nearly RM55,000 after 19 of his cows were found dead at the Sungai Tareh Oil Palm Plantation in Lambor Kanan near here, yesterday.

Perak Tengah district police chief Supt Barudin Wariso said Abd Rashid Hassan, 42, was told by a friend about the incident at 10am.

Barudin said, the owner then went to the plantation at about 2pm and discovered 20 cow carcasses foaming at the mouth and bleeding from the nose.

“Upon inspection, the farmer identified 19 of the animals as belonged to him.

“The palm oil plantation is privately owned by a village resident and the 1.6ha had been planted with oil palm seedlings in April this year,” he said in a statement here today.

Barudin said Abd Rashid was rearing 200 cows that he let roam freely.

He said further investigations were being conducted under Section 428 of the Penal Code for mischief by killing, poisoning, maiming, or rendering useless, any animal or animals.

“We have also informed the Veterinary (Services) Department of the incident to identify the cause of death, whether there was any mischief involved or due to disease or others,” he added. — Bernama
